Launch Complex
Space Shuttle
LC 39 A/B
Kennedy Space Center, FL
Launch Complex 39 has a rich history stretching back to that bold leap of Apollo 8 in December of 1968. Originally used for the mighty Saturn V boosters of the Apollo program, they were extensively modified to support launches of the Space Transportation System, the Space Shuttle. A new refurbishment of Pad B will enable it to be the launch site of the new Ares I and the Orion spacecraft.
